About me

I was raised in rural Indiana where “go out and play” implied staying within a half mile or so of home to be able to hear the bell atop the garage ring signaling it was time to come home for dinner.  Childhood was pure delight with summers filled with swimming, church camp and weeks with my siblings or cousins at my grandparents’ farm in Ohio.

At 19, I left Indiana to study international relations at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Later I obtained a master’s in international management at Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Arizona. The in- between years were spent working in Washington, D.C. in market research and international finance.

I have two children, both of whom never fail to amaze me with their insight, humor, and compassion. Over the years I held a variety of roles and management consulting and market research. My business career has been incredibly fulfilling but I am now winding down from my consuming practice to focus more on my passions, particularly poetry.

My poems are written for living. They explore the beauty we encounter in nature, in others and in art.  They also address life’s occasional frustrations, transitions, and challenges.  Like others I’ve experienced at times unexpected health challenges. My poetry concerning this subject attempt to capture the resulting emotions including perseverance, management, and the joy of either overcoming or acceptance.

raison d'être

Poetry for Today is designed to facilitate connection, community, and a sense of belonging. My goal is to provide a platform that speaks to the complexities we encounter in life: some joyful, some challenging, others insightful and teachable. My intention is to write poetry that is relatable and helpful to others as we navigate this crazy, wonderful, unpredictable journey we call life.
